Canadian "Scottish" or "Highland" Overseas Battalions that fought in the First World War
Canada organised 260 overseas battalions for the Great War. These overseas battalions were sent as they were organised to strength. Originally, Canada had planed to send its men in divisions but Commonwealth politics precluded divisions in favour or the C.E.F. being organised and sent to the front as composite battalions. Below are the "Scottish" battalions by name and their overseas battalion number. The number in (italics) following the regimental name is the number of Battle Honours won.
